Q&A: What's the best day and time for a birthday party?

Sep 24, 2024

The best time for a 7th birthday party is Saturday afternoon from 2:00-4:00 PM, according to a poll of moms, and Partydip is here to help with planning and vendor connections!

Q: Hi Partydip! I’m planning my son’s 7th birthday party, and I’m not sure what day or time to plan it. I’ll probably have his party over the weekend because I know people have too much going on during the week, and so do we. But I want to choose a time that’s convenient for other parents. What’s the best day and time for a birthday party?

A: Thanks for asking. We were curious too, so we did a poll. We asked moms all over the US to see if there was a favorite day or time for a birthday party for an elementary school-aged kiddo. Here are the results in order of preference:

1. Saturday afternoon from 2:00 - 4:00 PM (80% preferred)

2. Saturday morning from 10:00 AM - Noon (12% preferred)

3. Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 PM (3% preferred)

4. Sunday afternoon from 2:00 - 4:00 PM (3% preferred)

It’s always possible that one or two of your guests might have a scheduling conflict. There’s some wiggle room, too, in case your party begins at 1 PM or ends at 5 PM. Depending on your child’s age, an earlier or later time might be better. For example, you might need to schedule before a toddler’s afternoon nap and host a toddler party at 11:00 AM, or maybe your 11-year-old tween wants to do a pizza party followed by an escape room adventure with friends at 6:00 PM. That being said, if you throw a kid's party on a Saturday afternoon, chances are it’s the best and most convenient time for everyone.
